"The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve..."

West Mainers love to serve God together and have maintained a long-standing commitment to hands-on missions.

Below are some of the ways we answer the call to share God's love
with our neighbors and the world.
West Main Mission Offering
The West Main Mission Offering was created in 1999 to connect the congregation more directly to its mission giving.   The Missions Committee receives recommendations and determines, with congregational approval, which missions will be supported by the offering each year.  In 2022, the WMMO will support:  Friends of Barnabas, Project Ruth/Romania Missions, CBF Global Missions, CBF Virginia Missions, Harvest Pack, BGAV State Missions, God’s Storehouse, House of Hope, Good News Jail Ministry and Grace and Main Fellowship, Transitions Pregnancy Center, Moffett Saturday Feeding Program  and Habitat for Humanity.

God's Storehouse
Medical Teams travel to Honduras to provide general medical, vision and dental care, as well as other services.  Two West Main families volunteer annually with F.O.B. and have inspired West Main to become a regular supporter.  www.fobf.org
Moffett Saturday Feeding Program
Moffett Baptist Church prepares and serves lunch on Saturday mornings for neighbors in need.  West Mainers participate in this wonderful community mission twice a year, providing both food and volunteers.  https://moffettbaptist.com/saturday-feeding-program
Impact Virginia
Averett University hosts Virginia Baptist's youth mission camp, Impact Virginia for two weeks every summer.  West Mainers make and deliver lunches to worksites and frequently serve as project supervisors impactmissioncamps.org
God’s Storehouse works throughout the Danville and Pittsylvania County communities to collect and distribute food resources to those in need.  West Mainers serve on the board and as volunteers, and we donate both money and food to this wonderful organization.  The Backpacks Program, which provides weekend meals to children at several local elementary schools, is named in memory of West Mainer, Malcolm Huckabee.  www.godsstorehouse.org
Grace & Main
Once a month, West Main partners with Ascension Lutheran Church to prepare, serve and enjoy supper alongside the Grace and Main Community.  Grace & Main is an intentional, ecumenical Christian community that ministers with and to people in Danville who are experiencing homelessness, hunger, poverty, addiction and food and housing insecurity.

Project Ruth
Rise Against Hunger & Harvest Pack
Before coming to West Main, Skyler and Ronella Daniel were short-term missionaries serving in Romania with Project Ruth.  We’ve joined Skyler and Ronella in their commitment to this mission, which gives life-changing educational opportunities to children living in poverty, especially those from Roma communities and many West Mainers have had the privilege of traveling to Romania to serve with the Ruth School.  Currently, Project Ruth is providing vital assistance to Ukrainian Refugees with housing, transportation and other necessary resources. project-ruth.org
West Main regularly hosts food packing events for these two organizations which provide meals to school children in Danville and around the world. www.riseagainsthunger.org www.harvestpack.org
Habitat for Humanity
West Mainers have been roofing houses since our old World Changers days and we continue that tradition with our local missions partner, Habitat for Humanity.  Currently, Habitat is building a brand new neighborhood of 30 houses, Habitat Village North.  www.habitat.org/us-va/danville/danville-pittsylvania-county-hfh
Averett University
We take Jesus' calling to love your neighbor seriously and literally when it comes to Averett  and are always lookin for new ways to build community and share God's love with our Averett neighbors.  Our connections with Averett are varied and deep, as it is located right next door on West Main Street and many West Mainers are employed by the University or are Averett students/alumni.  Some intentional ways we've connected include:
Shared Staff Position
Since 2010, we've shared a staff position with Averett.  West Main's Associate Pastor for Youth and Families also serves as Averett's University Chaplain.
Student Interns
West Main received a donation in 2014 to begin a music internship program.  Since that time, this program has expanded to include children & youth ministry internships as well.
Averett Student Sunday
Averett students, staff, and alumni lead worship at West Main.  Music is provided by the Averett University Choir and other student groups.
Other connections we've enjoyed include Reverse Trick or Treating on the Averett campus, opening our building for Averett students to shower and charge their phones during a recent power outage, our deacons serving a spaghetti super to the Averett wrestling team during Christmas break, and lasagna dinners cooked by Averett CSF students to raise funds for Averett's prayer garden.   www.averett.edu
