"Sunday morning worship is a traditional service with a twist of the unexpected."

Worship at West Main is traditional without being overly formal.
Thoughtful attention is given to planning each service so that individual parts work together to create
a meaningful worship experience.  Worship is warm, energetic and positive in tone as we bring our
real selves before God to sing, pray, and seek wisdom from scripture.

The Message

We believe that God speaks to us in many ways; therefore, each part of a West Main worship service is involved in “delivering the message.”  Hymns, prayers, the children’s lesson, choir anthem, and sermon are all built around the lectionary and the particular season of the church year. Sermons combine solid Biblical scholarship with humble, authentic reflection and storytelling to create a focused, practical, encouraging message. Sermons are typically 10-15 minutes in length.

The Music

A traditional “organ and hymnal” congregation, West Main enjoys lively and energetic congregational singing.  Worship music is primarily prepared and presented by Mark Gourley and the Sanctuary Choir, but also includes the regular participation of a wide variety of talented musicians from within and outside of the congregation.

The People

A number of West Mainers are involved in worship leadership each week.  Although the church staff serves a primary role, children, youth, college students and adults of all ages share music, offer prayers, lead congregational readings, collect the offering and read scripture regularly during worship.  Members of the congregation are also invited to share “This I Believe” messages from the pulpit, allowing us to hear and learn from a variety of voices and experiences as we seek God together.
