We are seeking a Part-time Minister of Music!
West Main Baptist Church of Danville, VA is seeking a part-time (20 hours a week) Minister of Music and Worship to plan worship, direct adult and children's choirs, and act as the primary instrumentalist and accompanist for Sunday services. We seek an energetic, organized, team-player with strong communication skills. A four year degree in music or a related field, choral direction experience and keyboard (organ and/or piano) skills are required. While it is not necessary for the Minister of Music and Worship to be an ordained minister, he or she must approach their music leadership as ministry. West Main is a part of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and the Baptist General Association of Virginia. Resumes may be submitted to Drew Herring, Senior Pastor at [email protected]
West Main is both firmly rooted in Baptist tradition and ecumenical. We are home to worshippers who come from many different denominational backgrounds and hold a diversity of theological perspectives. Our services are centered on the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments and emphasize the grace and mercy we find through Jesus Christ our Lord. We like to think of worship at West Main as “warm liturgical.” Our services are orderly and reverent but we try not to take our self too seriously, leaning into moments of spontaneity and laughter. We usually sing from the hymnal accompanied by organ or piano and hear choral anthems led by our adult choir, but we might also have children playing drums on Palm Sunday, or guitars accompanying “Silent Night” on Christmas Eve. A Sunday service might include a call and response litany from the Book of Common Prayer or a Mary Oliver poem; Your grandmother’s favorite hymn, or a new song our teenagers learned at summer camp.

We believe intergenerational community is a gift, and we invite children first grade and older to participate fully in worship. Our children's choir sings several times a year and we often invite older children and youth to take offerings, read scripture, or offer prayers. We think it is good for our children to grow up learning how to worship with us, and good for all of us to be together. We encourage you to visit us virtually by viewing worship services on our Facebook page.
